A father-of-two verbally abused and pushed the mother of his children in front of them after coming home drunk from the pub
Robert Walker had been downing drinks all day in Rochester and had returned home to look after his children so his partner could go out during the evening.
However, after returning home intoxicated, he started shouting and became verbally abusive towards his partner while their children were in the same room.
The youngsters became distressed so his partner left the room and told Walker to leave the house.
But he pushed her and refused to leave.
His partner got herself into a bedroom and was able to secretly call police, while Walker kept shouting and abusing her.
The 41-year-old then entered the room and tried to push his partner off the bed, but when the police arrived at their home in Rochester, Walker was arrested and later charged with assaulting her.
The incident happened on October 8, last year.
Walker, of Brenchley Close, Rochester, admitted the offence in March and a pre-sentencing report was ordered.
He returned to the dock at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on November 1 to hear his fate.
Prosecutor Julie Farbrace told the court the couple had split up for a time after the incident, but were now back together.
She told the court “there were no injuries.”
Ms Farbrace also read aloud the woman’s victim impact statement to the bench who heard the incident had left the woman anxious.
She added: “She felt sick and disgusted with him and felt her family was falling apart and said she was anxious about the future as they were doing well as a family and then this happened.
“It had been a strange time (for the family) and she had been scared.”
The court heard Walker had a previous conviction for battery on a former partner and also had a traffic conviction in 2015.
Magistrates were also told Walker had been back living in the family home for some months and that things were now going well and that he had not drunk for five months and had sorted his issues out.
They placed Walker on a 12-month community order which will see him complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
He was also ordered to attend 25 rehabilitation sessions and pay a victim surcharge of £114 and £85 court costs.
