Blood found on a TV screen has helped convict a burglar to two years imprisonment.
Dale Pearson carried out a daylight burglary at a home in Lordswood in May 2018, stealing thousands of pounds worth of jewellery.
The 24-year-old, of no fixed address, was caught out after Pearson's blood and fingerprints were found on the victim’s television.
He pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday December 3.
The court heard Pearson broke into the home in Lordswood Avenue at some point between 8am and 5.30pm on Friday May 18, and that the victim returned home to find a conservatory window had been smashed open and that their property had been strewn across every room in the house.
Not a single drawer had been left unopened and it emerged that jewellery, two watches and electrical equipment had been stolen.
Initially it looked like forensic opportunities were limited but when the victim turned on their TV a small bloodstain and three fingerprints became apparent.
DNA analysis went on to prove these belonged to Pearson.
Detective Constable Dan Bister, the investigating officer for this case, said: "Pearson’s lack of remorse and unscrupulous nature is clear to see.
"He targeted the victim when he knew they would be out and caused a significant amount of damage to the property before invasively searching through every drawer and cupboard.
"It is pleasing that we have managed to secure justice for the victim and I hope they are satisfied with this outcome."
