A body of a man has been found in a flat in suspicious circumstances.
Police descended on the property in Firethorn, The Vineries, Gillingham, at about 10.30am after fire crews were initially called to a house blaze.
A green tarpaulin is currently covering the front of the property while a cordon has been erected and is being guarded by police officers.
Forensics officers have also been at the flat for most of the day.
Police say they are treating the death as suspicious.
A source said: "There were about ten police cars there, fire and forensics. The house is cordoned off and a police officer is on guard outside."
He added: "His brother found him this morning having done some shopping for him. He was lying in bed in a ground floor flat. There were people living above.
"The flat was flooded but there was evidence of a fire."
Neighbours say a man in a wheelchair and aged in his 50s lived in the bottom floor flat but kept himself to himself. He's only be seen outdoors when he went for a cigarette.
The man's next of kin has been informed.
