The body of a soldier who went to school in Medway has been repatriated today (Tuesday).
Captain Daniel Read, who died in Helmand province in Afghanistan on January 11, was a former pupil at Rainham Mark Grammar School.
The 31-year-old’s body was flown back to RAF Lyneham today and taken through the town of Wootton Bassett.
Capt Read was killed while trying to deactivate a Taliban bomb during his work for 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, Royal Logistic Corps.
He had previously been injured in an explosion in Afghanistan last October, but went back to work in December after recovering from his injuries.
The bodies of two other Kent soldiers who died in separate incidents were also flown back today.
