An elderly woman was targeted by a bogus caller who stole money and jewellery from her home.
Detectives say they are investigating the suspected distraction burglary after the pensioner, who is in her 90s, was targeted at her home in Rainham.
The incident happened at her home in Maidstone Road, between 1pm and 2pm on Wednesday, June 21.
The pensioner was asked to accompany a man into her back garden while at the same time another man entered her house.
The man then quickly left the garden. Later that evening the victim noticed that items in her bedroom had been disturbed and money and jewellery was missing.
Officers checking CCTV from the area say they have identified a white Fiat Scudo which was travelling southbound along Maidstone Road towards the junction of Wigmore Road and Deanwood Drive, which could be connected to the incident.
Officers believe the occupants of the Fiat could help with their enquiries and are appealing for drivers with dash-cams who were in the area to review any footage they may have.
DC Daniel Bister said: “These types of thieves pray on the most vulnerable and take advantage of a person’s trusting nature.
“We would urge people to be vigilant, legitimate callers will carry ID and relevant paperwork.
“We would like to hear from anyone who has any information about this incident or could help in anyway.”
