Bomb squad experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a military mine found in High Halstow.
Police today tweeted that the MoD is in Dux Court Road, High Halstow after the military hardware was discovered yesterday.
They said this morning: "The MOD is in attendance and no premises will be affected. Residents nearby are likely to hear a series of loud bangs, but no cause for alarm."
It comes after neighbours were shocked to see the bomb disposal van in woodland last night.
Laurence Claughton tweeted: "Wondering why this is on Dux Court Road opposite my house and we don't know what is going on?"
He claimed just before 9pm that something had been found in the woods nearby.
A police spokesman said last night: "Police received a call at 5.41pm on Sunday 2 April 2017 from a member of the public who reported finding what they believed to be an old military shell or mine on private land near to Dux Court Road at Hoo.
"The police are at the scene and a bomb disposal team is also in attendance. No premises or local residents will be affected."
Police confirmed this morning that the controlled explosion had been conducted and the operation was finished.
