Rock fan and football supporting Dean of Rochester Cathedral Adrian Newman was given an unusual send off this week.

A special service included the Bond theme played by the organ plus Bollywood dancers.

The Rt Rev Newman is moving to London following his appointment as Bishop of Stepney.

Dean Adrian was the principal guest at a festal Evensong in the cathedral where hundreds of local church leaders, members of the community and friends were able to wish him well.

Among them was the previous Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, who returned from Pakistan for the service. and the present Bishop, the Rt Rev James Langstaff. The cathedral bells were rung while the sounds of 007 were played on the cathedral’s 1791 organ.

Bishop James paid tribute to the way the Dean had strengthened the links between the church and the wider community, and in particular with Medway Council. It is a strange role you are moving into," he warned.

"You will no longer have a congregation, but Stepney will play to your many strengths and you will play to its many opportunities."
