A little boy is in hospital, fighting for his life, after falling from an upstairs window at his home.

The five-year-old, who has not been named, suffered serious head injuries in the accident at his home in Beatty Avenue, Gillingham.

It is not clear how the boy came to fall on Thursday afternoon, but neighbours said they had heard he was playing in his bedroom when he somehow fell out of the window at the back of the council-owned house.

Kent Air Abmulance, police and paramedicas were immediately called to the scene and the child was airlfited to the Royal London Hospital for emergency treatment.

He was later moved to Great Ormond Street Hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "There were police everywhere and then I saw a paramedic carry the boy out to the helicopter, he was bleeding.

"We were told he was just playing in his bedroom. We hope the boy pulls through. We don't know the family that well, but we are thinking of them."

Cllr Howard, Doe, Medway council's portfolio holder for housing, said council officers had been round to the house to inpsect the windows and it was deemed there were no faults.
