Keith Bryan and the mobile phone with his contacts
by Lynn Cox
An investigation is under way after a Medway man's personal contact details were found on someone else's new mobile phone.
Keith Bryan was astounded when he got a call from strangers to say they found his details on a phone they bought from Tesco Extra, in Gillingham.
He met the couple, who had bought the Samsung mobile for their son, and went back to the store.
Mr Bryan, of Twydall Lane, Gilingham, has a contract phone with Tesco/02 mobile - but has never had a Samsung.
"i'd also stored my pin numbers for my bank and credit cards on it. it's fortunate these people were honest...” – keith bryan
He said: "The couple were able to get in touch with me as they went through the contacts on the phone and found one for home which was, of course, my home. They told me they had purchased the phone from the store and it was in a sealed box sold as brand new.
"It was quite worrying as not only were my contacts on it, but I'd also stored my pin numbers for my bank and credit cards on it. It's fortunate these people were honest."
Keith and the couple, who live in Rainham, went to the store and they were given a new mobile by the manager who said he would look into the matter.
Tesco has since been in touch with Keith to say they want to investigate the matter further.
A spokesman said: "We are taking this matter very seriously and will investigate the issue thoroughly with the handset network provider O2."
