Burglar rescued after getting stuck in Nisa Local's window: Gillingham

A would-be burglar triggered an emergency service response - after getting stuck in a window and sparking a firefighter rescue bid.

The suspect, 58, was rescued from Nisa Local in Gillingham High Street this morning, and inspired the Twitter hashtag #OneMuppetInCustody.

Kent Police Road Policing Unit this morning humorously poked fun at the suspect in a tweet outlining a three point "golden rulebook" for burglars.

"Golden rules of burglary.

1. Be stealthy

2. Don’t get caught

3. Don’t have to get @kentfirerescue to get you as you’re stuck halfway out a window.

"Our #ARV’s attended a burglary at Nisa Local #Gillingham where all 3 rules were broken #OneMuppetInCustody SL," it tweeted.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 2.59am on Tuesday 11 September to reports that a burglar alarm had been triggered at a shop on the High Street, Gillingham.

"Officers attended and a 58-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary. He remains in custody and enquiries are ongoing."
