Police are warning people in the Towns to ensure their homes are secure during the warmer weather after four burglaries in Gillingham.

A second burglary happened in Corporation Road in the town about an hour later.

The offenders are believed to have gained access to the house through an open front window where they stole a phone and a laptop.

Two further break-ins also happened between 5am and 5.30am that morning in Devonshire Road.

At one home they stole a purse and a laptop and at the second an intruder was disturbed as he was climbing through a second-floor window.

He fled the scene empty handed.

Chief Insp Simon Alland said: "At this stage we are keeping an open mind as to whether the four burglaries are linked and are keen to hear from anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the two areas at the relevant times."

The offender disturbed climbing through a window in Devonshire Road was white, about 30, 5ft 10in to 6ft, of slim build, with stubble and short, dirty blond hair.

Chief Insp Alland said: "In most of these cases, we believe the intruders may have gained access through insecure doors or windows."

"Check doors and windows are locked, even during the hot weather we have at the moment and that, where feasible, you fit working security lights.

"We also advise people to register all valuables. This can be done for free on www.immobilise.com.

"Logging details helps us return the items to you if we find or seize them."
