Rochester: Burglars raid grieving cancer patient’s home

Police are still investigating a burglary at the home of a cancer patient who was attending her mother’s funeral.

Claire McIntosh, of Brambletree Crescent, Borstal, had gone to Southport, Merseyside, to say a final farewell to her mum Maureen, just after finishing chemotherapy treatment.

But two days later she was contacted by neighbours to say she had been burgled.

The 53-year-old returned home to find someone had tried to break in through her back door and attempted to smash her kitchen window – but they had only managed to break the first layer of double glazing.

Undeterred, the burglars moved to the front of the house and managed to get in through another window.

They stole all Miss McIntosh’s jewellery and cash she had drawn out to pay for work around the house.

A police spokesman said: “Officers have carried out a number of inquiries but no arrests have yet been made. Inquiries are ongoing.”

Miss McIntosh said: “I just hope the people will be caught. I want them to know the damage they’ve done. It was very much the last thing I needed.”
