One said coolant could be seen leaking from a vehicle, before they heard "everyone shouting it’s on fire".
They said those in the vicinity then ran away from the car before it "blew up."
The estate has been a popular meeting place for drivers on Friday nights, and it is thought a Mercedes, an Audi, a BMW and a Ford Fiesta were involved in the crash.
A tweet from Kent Police said: "Specials and regular colleagues have yet again attended a road traffic crash at Medway City Estate.
Fortunately the drivers and all passengers managed to escape these 2 cars before they went up in flames."
Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed firefighters were called to the scene of the crash and four casualties with minor injuries and were left in the care of ambulance crews.
The crash drew criticism from people commenting online, with some calling for further measures such as speed bumps to prevent future incidents.
One drivers had been "allowed to turn the area into a racetrack with no consequence, yet if some poor motorist inadvertently creeps up to 51mph on the M20 contraflow that no one needs or wants...the fine is on the doorstep before they get home."
SteveM666 added: "Not the first time 'accidents' have happened own there.
"Time for the area to be pro-actively policed for dangerous driving and unroadworthy, uninsured cars."
But others warned against tarring all members of the car community with the same brush.
Kent12334 wrote: "Its all to easy to judge the whole car community and smear them with the same label when something like this happens.
"I frequent mce every Friday and for the many its a place to go and show your cars off in the car park and talk with other enthusiasts, however there is the few that take the opportunity to try and run the strip as fast as they can and drive dangerously ultimately causing crashes.
"What the article didn't show was the immense sense of community when something like this does occur, the people that do go down without the intentions of driving recklessly sprinting the length of the estate to make sure everyone was out of the car and trying there best to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher.
"Not all of us are here to make your roads unsafe, things like this are not created with the intention of causing harm.
"It's the few that spoil it for the many the same with any hobby..."
