A car has crashed into a lamppost this afternoon.

Maidstone Road in Chatham, is shut in both directions due to the incident between The Ridgeway and Patterns Lane.

Kent Police was called at 12.09pm and a spokesman said no serious injuries are believed to have been reported.

Officers are at the scene and a road closure is in place while the incident is attended to.

A driver from Hire 2 You Car and Van Hire which operates in Medway and Sittingbourne posted a photo of the car which had hit the post and caused damage to its side on its Facebook page.

The picture was taken at around 12.15pm and the post warned drivers to "try and avoid" the area.
