Footage has emerged of a car going up in flames after it was torched in broad daylight.
The incident was witnessed by residents in Fox Street, Gillingham, yesterday morning.
Some described it as like an “explosion” and a “bang.”
Now video has emerged of someone loitering near the vehicle before flames leap up and smoke rises. The person then runs around the corner.
The footage was captured on a mobile phone. The person who recorded it said: “It wasn't a pleasant case. I immediately started watching what happened on the camera. The stranger decided he could set the car on fire."
A spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 7.51am yesterday (August 20) to a stationary car which was on fire.
“Officers attended the scene where Kent Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the blaze.
“The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious.”
Firefighters were first called to the blaze at 7.38am where the vehicle was still in flames.
A crew then put the blaze out with a hose reel jet.
One witness said they heard a noise they described as an “explosion” before spotting the crews at the scene.
Another said it was like hearing a “bang.”
The crew was there for just over half an hour.
There were no reported injuries.
Police are investigating and anyone with information which may help is being urged to come forward.
