Traffic was being held on Blue Bell Hill after a car fire this afternoon.
Firefighters were tackling the blaze just before 2pm on the A229 Chatham-bound just after Common Road for Chatham and Rochester.
Two crews were sent to the scene, have extinguished the blaze and are now helping to clear the road of debris and leaked fuel.
Kent Police spokesman James Walker said: "Officers were called at 1.34pm after a car caught fire on the Chatham-bound carriageway of the A229 Blue Bell Hill.
"Officers attended and assisted Kent Fire and Rescue Service by closing one lane of the carriageway and the slip road that leads to the crematorium and Blue Bell Hill village.
"No injuries have been reported and officers remain at the scene."
