Police were called after a woman was assaulted in a car park on a housing development.

A 50-year-old man from Halling was arrested on suspicion of assault following the incident at about 4.40pm on Tuesday near a block of flats at St Andrew's Park, Halling.

The woman did not need hospital treatment and the man was released on bail while the investigation continues. Police said the pair know each other.

A concerned resident said officers had been at an area near a block of flats on the estate since Tuesday evening.

Jeremy Wilson, 54, who lives close to Burnt Lime House, in Limeburners Drive, said four police patrol cars were at the scene that night and three remained yesterday (Wednesday) morning.

He said: "I have lived here six years and not seen anything like this. I wouldn't have thought much of it if they had gone by the morning but it was a bit concerning they were still there and we didn't know what was going on."

One resident on Limeburners Drive, who did not want to be identified, said: “I think someone had a fight. It was in the evening. The police were here all night and they arrested somebody.”

The resident said the weren’t surprised by the news, adding: "There’s often trouble. People are drunk and arguing. I don’t want to wake up in the morning and find out somebody has died."

Police spokesman James Walker said: "Kent Police is investigating a report that a woman was assaulted in a car park in Limeburners Drive, Halling, at around 4.40pm on Tuesday, December 14.

"The woman did not require hospital treatment and a 50-year-old man from Halling was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has since been released on bail, pending further inquiries, until January 10, 2022. The involved parties are known to each other.

"To assist with inquiries, a cordon was set up to check for forensic evidence and had been stood down by 12.30pm on Wednesday."
