Five cars were seized by officers at police check points in Chatham.
Officers from the Medway Community Safety Unit set up check-points in Dock Road and The Brook on Wednesday June 3 during a road safety operation to ensure motorists were driving safely and within the law.
Over the course of five hours, officers stopped numerous vehicles including five cars which were being driven by drivers with no insurance. Each of the motorists had their vehicle seized and were issued with a traffic offence report.
A 24-year-old man from London was also arrested on suspicion of failing to stop during the road safety operation. He has since been released, pending further enquires.
Six people were also reported for speeding, with the highest speed recorded being 48mph in a 30mph zone.
One motorist was also reported for driving with seven passengers, despite having five seats, and one person was issued with a summons to attend court for driving without a licence. Another was reported to the DVLA for driving an untaxed vehicle.
Inspector Steve Bassett, from the Medway Community Safety Unit, said: "The vast majority of motorists in Medway drive diligently and in full compliance with the highway code. Those who don’t, however, present an unnecessary and unacceptable safety risk.
"Driving with insurance is not optional, it is a mandatory requirement that is in place to protect all road users and it would be unjust for those who break the law to go unchallenged.
"Likewise, speed limits are in place to protect life. Over the course of my policing career I have sadly come across deaths caused by speeding which were unnecessary and completely avoidable.
"We are committed to keeping Medway safe and will continue to carry out similar operations in the future."
