Passengers escaped unharmed after youths armed with catapults targeted a bus for the second time in three days.

Arriva held all services running through Luton Road, Chatham on Saturday after one of their buses was pelted by projectiles.

There was no damage and no injuries.

For the safety of the drivers and passengers all services were postponed at around 6.30pm until the morning.

A spokesperson from Arriva South said: “A group of youths used catapults to attack one of our buses.

"Thankfully there was no damage and nobody was harmed but we took the decision to divert the service for the rest of that evening for everyone’s health and safety.

"Unfortunately this is not the first time our buses have been targeted and Arriva has reported the matter to police.

"This type of behaviour is very dangerous for both our customers and staff and it is thoroughly unacceptable.

"The buses returned to their usual routes the following morning."

The same route had to be held last Thursday after three of its vehicles were attacked by yobs.

And it appears to be a recurring issue for the route as in June, bricks were hurled at buses causing them to be diverted.

Last month, Arriva permanently scrapped the 190 route from Dering Way, Gravesend after a window was smashed in the summer.

The decision was made following a number of attacks on the buses.
