CCTV of murdered James O'Rourke walking to flat at Caulkers House, Chatham, with Neil Taylor

This footage shows some of the final moments of a murder victim's life.

A day and a half later the semi-naked body of James O'Rourke, seen with a dog at the back of the group, was discovered face down in the stairwell of Caulkers House, Chatham.

What happened in the hours in between will never be completely clear, but it would appear homeless O'Rourke was tortured after being accused of stealing drugs with weapons including a sander.

Earlier this week a jury found he'd been murdered by Neil Taylor, seen walking in front of him, at the sixth floor flat of Caroline Rushworth.

The pair were arrested alongside homeless Daniel Fox, 35, after the body of 29-year-old Mr O'Rourke was found between floors four and five clad in just boxer shorts at about 7.20am on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28, last year.

He was lying face down between floors four and five. He had been beaten, stabbed and tied up before being taken to the stairwell in a shopping trolley.

He had multiple injuries to his head, neck, face, torso and limbs, including eight fractured ribs and a 32.5cm-long double incision down his chest and stomach.

He had ligature marks where he had been tied up around his ankles and thighs with twine.

Maidstone Crown Court heard the last sighting of him was captured on CCTV as he arrived at Miss Rushworth’s sixth floor flat just before 10.45pm on August 26 last year.

The above footage shows him earlier that day.

The prosecution case was that all three acted together, but they each denied being responsible for his death.

Miss Rushworth was told in evidence she should have done more to save Mr O’Rourke’s life.

She said she was sorry for not alerting emergency services as he lay on her kitchen floor, having been beaten and tied up.

But she added she was frightened of what could happen to her after she was told not to grass.

Drug addict Taylor, 36, who also lives at the block in Shipwrights Avenue, stood trial with Miss Rushworth and Fox last month and on Monday was convicted after a jury spent seven days deliberating.

He will be sentenced after Fox is retried in May.

Miss Rushworth, 36, was acquitted.

The court heard while in custody since her arrest in August 2017 she has got stopped using drugs.

A drug addict has been convicted of murdering a homeless man whose half-naked body was found dumped in the stairwell of a block of flats.
