A fire in a cell at a Rochester young offenders institute has led to two men being taken to hospital.

The blaze at Cookham Wood YOI, in Sir Evelyn Road, started just before 6pm on Monday night. Two fire engines from Medway station were called.

It is unclear if the men were offenders or staff, but both were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
