A 24-hour charity gaming marathon is under way at a Rochester video game arcade.
In a hot back-room at AllGen Gaming on Rochester High Street, 10 gamers have been glued to their screens since 10am this morning and will be trying to survive an entire day and night of non-stop video games to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The day-long gaming session is being held as part of Macmillan Game Heroes 2017 where fans are sponsored to take on their favourite game and stream their efforts live online.
Luke Reynolds, 29, co-founder of Niche Networking and Events, who organised the event at AllGen, said: “We’ve got a team of us here all playing games for 24 hours and we hope to raise as much money as we can for Macmillan. The target is £5,000, potentially a bit too ambitious but we’ll do our best.
“Shane Clark, the owner, has been really generous and let us all host the event, he’s taking part too so come on and watch the stream.”
Different participants have adopted their own strategies for surviving every one of the 1,440 minutes of the challenge.

“Lots of slow release energy food with bananas and salads and that kind of thing. Just trying to interact with as many people as we can in the audience to keep us awake really,” said the Lordswood based events organiser.
Arcade owner 38-year-old Shane, said: “I’m not as healthy as Luke, I’m going to be doing pizza and energy drinks all the way.”
“I’ve probably trained all my life for something like this, I’ve always gamed since I was four-years-old so I’ve done 72 hours on one game once a few years ago so I’ve probably trained up enough for it.”
The crew at AllGen are taking donations through their JustGiving page during the 24-hours and once the event has ended tomorrow at 10am.
