A dog lover from Medway is appealing for help to bring a pair of abused three-legged huskies to the UK.
Kia (pictured above) and Jasper are in foster care in Turkey recovering from leg amputations after being mistreated.
Despite being saved from the streets, the homeless dogs face an uncertain future unless almost £2,000 can be raised to bring them over here where they will have a better chance of being successfully rehomed.
Tony Kast, from Chatham, who volunteers for Siberian Husky Aid Rescue and Education (SHARE), is helping with the campaign.
He said: “SHARE has agreed to help them once they’re here and find a foster home for them, but it is going to cost £1,800 to bring them over to the UK.
"A lot of dogs in Turkey need re-homing, but these dogs have a particularly sad story and it is disgusting what has happened to them.”
Both dogs had been hit by cars and were being treated by an animal shelter, but while Kia was in recovery she was taken from her foster home and assaulted, which resulted in the need to remove her leg.
Jasper also suffered a broken leg which was repaired numerous times but eventually had to be amputated, after it is believed someone removed the expensive metal plates from his leg when he escaped from the vet centre.
Tony added: “I can’t see how anyone can do that to an animal.
“If we leave them in the country then we think their fate will be that they will be put down or go back on to the streets, so the more people that know of them the better. Maybe someone will even want to foster them.”
So far the website has raised more than £800 this month.
