Tracey Crouch has been elected to one of Parliament’s most high profile committees.
The Chatham MP has gained a place on the Department for Culture Media and Sport select committee, which scrutinises the spending, policies and administration in those areas.
A number of high profile figures have come before the committee in recent years, including Rupert Murdoch and George Entwistle, the director general of the BBC, who this week answered questions on the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal.
It also recently released a report on racism in football. Committee members are voted in by their fellow MPs.
Miss Crouch, 37, who became an MP in 2010, said she was happy to take on the extra responsibility.
In a tweet following the announcement, she wrote: “I’m delighted to be selected for the culture, media and sport committee. Thanks to colleagues for their support.”
Miss Crouch is an FA qualified coach and coaches a girls under 15s team.
MP for Gillingham and Rainham, Rehman Chishti was also appointed to a select committee this week.
He will join the Justice Committee which examines the expenditure, administration and policy of the Ministry of Justice.
Before being elected to Parliament in 2010, Rehman practiced as a criminal barrister and studied law at Aberystwyth University.
He is also currently a member of the Joint Committee of Human Rights.
Mr Chishti said: "It is a privilege to be elected to the Justice Select Committee. I have a background in legal issues having previously served as a barrister before I entered Parliament.
"I will use this opportunity to work with my fellow Parliamentary colleague to examine the work of the Justice Department."
