Chatham boss Paul Foley has been reunited with utility man Kane Rice.
The 21-year-old, who can play in the midfield or as a winger, is the club’s third signing in the space of a week – and their fifth in the past month – after joining from Maidstone United.
Rice played for the Chats in pre-season before joining Dover but was released by Whites boss Martin Hayes and joined Ryman League, Division 1 North side Maldon Town.
He then moved to Maidstone but has linked up again with Foley and several former VCD team-mates.
He made his debut as substitute for Nick Hegley in Tuesday’s 2-1 Ryman League Division 1 South defeat at Faversham – the Chats’ first reverse in five games – with striker Billy Shinners also coming off the bench after joining from Erith Town.
Faversham went in front after 21 minutes when Damian Abel punished a defensive mistake to fire past James Tedder. Rice got his chance when Nick Hegley limped off with a calf injury after 35 minutes and almost set up an equaliser early in the second half but nothing came from his cross.
Faversham doubled their lead four minutes later when Abel hit his second with a shot beyond Tedder.
Leroy Huggins pulled one back in stoppage time with his fifth goal of the season, following good work by Lee Maskell and Matt Solly’s backheel.
Foley (pictured) said: "It was an awful game of football played on a heavy pitch.
"We started well and created some good chances. Losing Nick was a blow but we started well in the second half again, won plenty of corners and possession but didn’t make it pay."
Hegley faces a fitness test before the home game with Godalming on (Saturday). The Hogg brothers, Jon and Anthony, are unavailable, while Ryan Laker is nursing a knee injury.
