Alex O’Brien has admitted Chatham’s poor form has caused him to contemplate whether he will be in the job next season.

The Chats boss has overseen four defeats in a row and faces being dragged into the Ryman League Division 1 South dogfight with basement boys Ashford and Whitstable each boasting four games in hand on the Maidstone Road side.

Town’s latest setback was on Tuesday when they lost 2-1 at home to leaders Folkestone Invicta after conceding an 86th minute penalty.

Brendon Cass had earlier cancelled out Invicta’s opener with a 36th-minute goal on the break.

O’Brien (pictured) admitted: "It doesn’t matter who you are. Everyone knows this is a results business and if you’re not getting the results then you come under the spotlight.

"It’s all okay if you’re winning but if you have blips it’s a different story."

Town have only two wins in eight games ahead of Saturday’s trip to fellow-strugglers Corinthian Casuals and Tuesday’s derby clash at home to high-flying Sittingbourne.

O’Brien said: "I’m not someone who is happy to be wearing comfy shoes. There is no pressure on me to finish in the play-offs or top 10 but I’m not stupid, look at the number of fantastic managers there are out there who are not in a job."

Richard Avery (ankle) and John Wilfort (suspension) are the only absentees for the two games.
