Kevin Watson blasted his Chatham players after a woeful performance at Tilbury on New Year’s Day.

Boss Watson (pictured) accused them of being mentally and physically weak following the hiding dished out by a Tilbury side who didn’t even have a recognised goalkeeper. The hosts were forced to play defender Paul King in goal but Chats failed to test the makeshift keeper in the 5-1 defeat.

Watson said: "We’re just poor at the moment. You can afford to carry one or two players but not eight or nine.

"It was up there as our worst performance of the season and I’ve told the players a few home truths. One of the hardest things in life is being honest with yourself but it’s difficult to move forward until you are.

He added: "We’re weak mentally and physically but I’d say the physical side is a by-product of the mental side."

Chatham host Romford at Maidstone Road in Ryman League, Division 1 North, on Saturday with Watson demanding an improvement

He said: "We have to get better and we will get better – I’ll make sure of that."
