A six-year-old boy who was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car in Gillingham is said to be in a serious but stable condition this morning.
He was one of two boys knocked down by a silver Vauxhall Astra in Medway Road just after 3.30pm yesterday.
The younger of the two was taken to a hospital in London in a critical condition, while the other, eight, sustained less serious injuries and was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gilingham.
According to police, the six-year-old has suffered life-threatening injuries, but officers said he was now in a stable condition.
Police arrested a 54-year-old man from Gillingham, on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and officers confirmed this morning he had now been bailed pending further inquiries until Thursday, December 14.
Officers are also appealing for witnesses, and particularly want to talk to the driver of a light-coloured Citroen Picasso, which was believed to have been in front of the collision, to come forward.
Both boys are said to have been standing on the path immediately before they were injured.
