Firefighters were called to a blaze in a flat in Gillingham High Street this morning.
Neighbours called Kent Fire and Rescue service after they smelt smoke coming from a second floor flat in Phoenix Court at 10.20am.
Firefighters forced entry into the property and found that a chip pan, which had been left on the hob, had caught fire.
They put it out using a damp tea towel and moved the pan to safety.
