Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is synonymous with the festive season and now a theatre group is coming to Rochester to perform it in true Victorian style.
The Dickens Theatre Company will bring the story of Ebenezer Scrooge to the Guildhall Museum with the help of six actors who will play all of the characters in the novel – around 40.
There will be no props or sets, just the actors in costume bringing the story to life, and a piano.
The production will be directed by actor Eric Richard, who is best-known for playing Sgt Bob Cryer in ITV’s The Bill for more than 20 years.
Eric, who has appeared in series including Victoria Wood As Seen on TV, Home Sweet Home, Open All Hours, Shoestring, and Holby City, has also been appointed artistic director of the company.
Scrooge will be played by Martin Carroll, who has appeared in World War Z and the Little Shop of Horrors.
A CGI version of him can be seen in the Assassins Creed Syndicate trailers, being chased through Victorian London.
He will also play Edward Hogarth.
Simon Hepworth will take on the roles of Charles Dickens, Jacob Marley and the Ghost of Christmas Present. He has previously appeared in the UK tour of Blood Brothers and has appeared in EastEnders, Foyle’s War and Emmerdale.
He will be joined by fellow Blood Brothers star Ryan Philpott. He will play Bob Cratchit and the Ghost of Christmas Past.
They will be joined by Hannah Blaike, Louise Faulkner and Dave Keeling who will bring the other characters to life.
The famous seasonal tale will be performed at the museum in the High Street between Thursday, December 3, and Sunday, December 6.
Tickets cost £10 for adults and £7.50 for concessions. For more information and to book visit medwayticketslive.co.uk or call 01634 338338.
