Christmas comes early to Hoo

There will be Christmas lights and carol singing on the village green in Hoo on Saturday as people gather to mark the opening of the new village centre.

The Hoo village centre project, which began in July costing some £250,000, will be opened at 11am.

Cllr Janice Bamber will switch on the Christmas lights.

She said: "I am delighted to be able to open the exciting new village centre and to bring some festive cheer to the residents of Hoo."

The church choir will perform carols, mince pies and mulled wine from local business will be available.

The project, funded by Medway Council and coordinated by the Integrated Transport Team, was aimed at making travelling in and around the village centre easier, and included work on pathways and the installation of ramps for wheelchair and pushchair access.

Work includes new bus shelters and cycle parking, additional lighting and increased CCTV coverage around the village centre area.

Medway Council worked with the parish council and local groups in Hoo to throughout the project, which was developed after consultations with the local community.
