Churchgoers were left stunned after a hungry foodie gobbled three mince pies in just 32 seconds.
People looked on in shock when George Panai faced off against another woman in a Kent church’s “beer and carols” night on Friday.
Footage from the event at St Margaret’s Church in Rainham has left some suggesting the 52-year-old’s incredible performance would even be a world record.
George was attempting to beat the previous best of 52.21 seconds when he smashed the challenge.
Speaking about the incredible effort, the hospital engineer told the Sun: “After I had seen the others having a go, I thought I could do better than that.
“It was just such a great evening and it was a lot of fun. It was really nice because I could hear my kids cheering me on.
“I didn’t expect to break any records at all, but as soon as I saw the size of them I knew I could fit them in my gob in one. I used to eat really quickly as a child.
“They were absolutely delicious, I love mince pies and I could have gone through the whole box to be totally honest.
“I had actually only had dinner 45 minutes before the service had started so I was still a little bit full, but there is always room for pudding.”
The current Guinness World Record is held by professional eat Leah Shutkever’s for a 2019 attempt which George beat by 20 seconds.
Vicar Nathan Ward organised the event and said “never in a million years” did he think someone could do it.
The 44-year-old added: “As you can see in the video, I was just absolutely gobsmacked, I didn’t know what to do. He went through those mince pies like the terminator.
“I had people turn round to me and say it was the best carol service they have been to. It’s not everyday you see something like that.
“People were epically failing before George went up, someone nearly choked doing it, but he just strolled up and casually smashed the world record.”
