Flames quickly spread from the decking to garden furniture, sheds and artificial grass, as well as causing heat damage to the back of a neighbouring home.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus spent two hours tackling the blaze using high pressure hose reel jets.

KFRS’ Volunteer Response Team also attended to offer advice and support to affected residents.

No injuries were reported.

Following the incident, crews are reminding people to ensure cigarettes and cigars are fully stubbed out and cooled before being discarded.

And, to only use a proper, heavy ashtray which can’t tip over easily and is made of a material that won’t burn.
