Drivers are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys as a large stretch of the M2 will be closed this weekend.
A 23-mile part of the coast-bound carriageway will be closed from 8pm on Sunday to 6am Monday between Gillingham and Faversham.
National Highways will be carrying out work between junctions 4 to 7 to replace the safety barriers on the on and off slip roads to maintain the safety and improve journeys for road users, while preventing the need for unplanned closures.
A barrier will be set up on the hard shoulder of the coastbound M2 to provide safe working area for the team, which will be set up overnight and removed once the work is completed.
Further work on the coast-bound carriageway will be completed while the slip roads are closed at Junction 5 to minimise disruption.
National Highways will be taking the opportunity to clean and repair the drainage on site.
During the closures, a signed diversion route will be in place from junction 4 via the A278 Hoath Way and A2 via Rainham and Sittingbourne to junction 7.
Traffic wanting to join the coast-bound M2 at junction 5 (A249 Stockbury) should use the A249 northbound towards Sittingbourne to join the diversion along the A2 to junction 7.
