A dilapidated community centre could once again become a hive of social activity thanks to aid from Project Kent.
Launched at the start of last month by kmfm and bank Kent Reliance, Project Kent set out seek worthy community projects in need of funding - and called on members of the public to nominate the most deserved initiatives.
Hundreds of nominations were received but judges have now announced Farthing Corner Community Centre in Rainham as one of their two final chosen projects - meaning the centre is set to get a makeover.
Built more than 30 years ago, the charity-run centre in Burnham Walk welcomes more than 100 children and adults each week, housing various clubs ranging from dance classes to Rainbows.
But changing needs have meant some clubs have left the premises and gone elsewhere, affecting the centres usage capabilities - and over time the building has fallen into disrepair.
Now desperately in need of a makeover, the kitchen is dated and needs to be refurbished for more effective use, the bathroom is old and affected by damp, and the cramped changing areas are in need of structural work to create an open-planned spacious area.
Those behind the project hope updating the community centre will encourage new groups to use the area, encourage old groups to return, and in turn help those groups increase their membership - meaning the centre would be used and enjoyed by more people.
