People have rallied round to help Bradley Hannan again, but this time it’s to help him celebrate his 30th birthday.
Mr Hannan, who has battled three brain tumours, touched the hearts of people across the Towns when he was viciously mugged last year.
His family were not sure if they were going to throw him a party as Mr Hannan isn’t really one for big celebrations but the last minute decision to have one meant they could not find a DJ for the occasion.
But following a post on Facebook, the family soon had two DJs offering to play for free at the party on Friday, July 29.
Mr Hannan’s sister Daniela Golding said: “Then someone offered to do the balloons for free and now we also have someone making the food for free, someone is making him a cake, and another offered to come and do photos, and another to decorate the hall.
“Other people have asked for an address so they can send him birthday cards.
“After recent events it’s nice to know in this community that there are a lot more good people than the bad.”
Mr Hannan turned 30 on Tuesday and spent the day with his family, including his two new nieces and nephew, and went for dinner at Spoon World Buffet, Chatham High Street.
Mrs Golding said: “I got him a balloon that said 30 on it and he spent all day insisting he was 21.
“The scary thing is, it doesn’t seem that long ago since it was his 21st because that was quite a big deal for us too.”
Her brother has battled three brain tumours and when he was first diagnosed at the age of five, doctors said they were sure how long he would live.
She added: “Now he’s fine, it’s really nice because yesterday could have been so different if he hadn’t made it.”
After Mr Hannan was dragged into an alleyway and mugged while waiting for a bus in Luton Road, Chatham, in November, people raised more than £3,500 to help him get back on his feet.
He was on his way home after volunteering at Medway Maritime Hospital. The attack knocked his confidence so he no longer helps out at the hospital but Mrs Golding hopes he will go back soon.
