Commuters faced disruption this morning after two crashes on Medway’s roads and train lines.

A pile-up on the coastbound M2 at junction 3, for Blue Bell Hill, brought traffic to a standstill but it was quickly cleared before 9am.

At 8am a lorry also crashed into the railway bridge over London Road, Strood, shutting down the mainline from Rochester to London Victoria.

Trains between Rochester and Swanley were delayed for up to 40 minutes as engineers carried out emergency checks. The line re-opened at 8.45am.

The lorry driver was not thought to be hurt.
