Medway residents are being offered a way to slash fuel bills.
With Winter just around the corner Medway Council, in partnership with the Kent Energy Centre, is offering free or discounted energy saving measures to help residents combat the cost of high energy prices.
The offers available include free cavity wall and loft insulation for anyone aged over 70 and anyone who is on certain means-tested benefits.
For everyone else there is a discount scheme, which means that cavity wall insulation and loft insulation are available for around £199 each. Other schemes include discounted energy efficient boilers and heating systems.
These schemes are just part of the energy saving programmes that Medway Council is making available to residents. Cavity wall insulation typically saves £160 per year, based on the latest energy prices, which makes financial sense for residents.
Cllr Howard Doe, the council’s portfolio holder for community services, which includes housing, said: “Government targets for reducing both carbon emissions and levels of fuel poverty mean that we are actively working with partner organisations such as the Kent Energy Centre to help provide practical support to residents.
“We would encourage all residents who think they may benefit from energy saving measures to contact the Kent Energy Centre to see what is available to them.”
Mike Bundy from the Kent Energy Centre said: “There is still uncertainty in the energy market about new price increases for gas, electricity and other fuels.
"However, even a small increase could have a major impact for those on fixed or low incomes.”
