Kent Wildlife Trust lends cattle to Capstone Country Park in Chatham

Cows have made a welcome return to a popular country park for the first time in more than 10 years.

The English Longhorn cattle are on loan from Kent Wildlife Trust and will be staying at Capstone Country Park in Capstone Road, Chatham for the next few weeks.

Rangers from Kent Wildlife Trust will be running ranger led introductions to the animals as part of the Wild About Capstone event this Sunday (September 24).

So if you would like the opportunity to get up close and meet the cattle, it is advised to book your place at the Capstone ranger stall on Sunday as places will be limited.

The cattle, which are in an enclosed field, will be there for a few weeks with the hope of them being a more permanent feature in the future as part of the ongoing management of the grasslands of the old tenant fields.

A sign asks walkers to “give them space” so they do their work.

It is the first time in more than 10 years that cattle have stayed on the former farm site.
