A crash near the Medway Tunnel caused traffic problems for motorists.

Lanes were closed in both directions following the accident involving a car and a lorry but the route has been cleared.

Emergency services attended the scene on the A289 towards Gillingham but no serious injuries have been reported.

Medway Council warned motorists to expect delays to all surrounding areas and if possible to look for a different route.

Police spokesman Vicki Foster said:" Kent Police was called at 2.41pm to a report of a collision involving a car and a lorry in Pier Road, Gillingham.

"Officers are at the scene along with Secamb and no serious injuries are believed to have been reported."
