A young boy who was left fighting for his life after he and his brother were hit by a car while waiting for a bus, is now in a stable condition, police have said.
The news comes as officers from the serious collision investigation unit renew their appeal for a driver to come forward following the crash in Gillingham.
The six-year-old was left with serious injuries after he and his older brother were injured as they stood at the bus stop with their mother, on Medway Road, on October 17.
They were on the pavement when a silver Vauxhall Astra travelling towards Pier Road veered across the road, mounted the pavement and hit them.
The younger brother was flown to St George’s Hospital in London with life-threatening head injuries.
Police arrested 54-year-old John Andrew Morris, of Gardiner Street, Gillingham, on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and he has been bailed pending further inquiries until Thursday, December 14.
A breath test did not detect any alcohol, but the driver’s phone was taken by police for further investigation.
It is thought the elder brother, aged eight – who was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital – hurt his foot and he had since been discharged.
Police want to find the driver of a light-coloured Citroen Picasso, which was believed to have been in front of the collision.
Witnesses should call 01622 798538, and quote reference 17-0797.
