A young man seriously injured in a car crash on the Gillingham Business Park is in a stable condition.
The 20-year-old, from the Gillingham area, was driving a black Ford Fiesta when it hit a lamp post in Ambley Road, at 1.15am, on Saturday.
Firefighters spent half an hour removing the side of the car and the man was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, before being transferred to King’s College Hospital, London.
It is thought he underwent surgery for serious head injuries. His condition is now described as stable.
A 21-year-old female passenger, thought to be the driver’s partner and also from the Gillingham area, suffered facial injuries and was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital. She was due to be discharged on Sunday.
The female passenger escaped the crash, but firefighters spent up to half an hour freeing the male driver through the side of the car.
Three fire crews from Medway and Rainham used cutting equipment to gain access to the injured man.
Police closed the road for three hours.
