Crash on M2

A ladder which fell of the back of a lorry has caused a crash on the M2.

The emergency services were called to the coastbound carriageway between the Gillingham and Chatham turn-offs after a car smashed into the ladder, which ended up in the fast lane.

The driver of the car is currently being cut out of his vehicle by firefighters who were called to the scene just before 10am today (Oct 20).

Police say other vehicles, which were immediately behind the one which crashed were able to stop before colliding with it.

However, as the traffic built up, another driver was not able to stop in time and shunted into other vehicles about 100 yards from the first crash site.

It is not known how seriously hurt the driver of the firdst car is but the other driver who crashed, is said to have suffered only minor injuries.

Police have closed all three lanes of the carriageway between junctions three and four and are advising motorists to find alternative routes until the crash site can be cleared.
