Traffic chaos at Blue Bell Hill after breakdown and crash follows M2 closure

Drivers have been left facing long delays after a breakdown and crash followed the closure of the M2.

Earlier today the motorway was closed coastbound after a huge pothole appeared between Gillingham and Sittingbourne, making driving hazardous for motorists.

The motorway was fully closed between junctions 3 and 5 for emergency repairs, with traffic being diverted to the A229, to join the M20 before returning to the M2 via the A249.

But traffic was brought to a standstill after a broken-down vehicle was reported just after 2.15pm at the A229 link road at Blue Bell, blocking one lane between Taddington Roundabout and Lord Lees Roundabout.

Conditions were exacerbated half an hour later following a crash between an HGV and a car on the M2 J3 Taddington Roundabout, adding to delays.

All lanes are now reported to be open on the link road.

Meanwhile, one lane has reopened on the M2 following pothole repairs.
