Fire crews battled to contain a blaze which had spread through an outbuilding.
At the height of the incident around four engines were sent to the scene behind a row of shops in Cuxton Road, Strood.
Crews were called at around 2pm and used a hose reel jet and compressed air foam to extinguish the flames.
It took two hours to bring the incident under control.
Lots of thick black smoke was reported by residents and an air ambulance was spotted landing in a park near Northcote Road.
Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the scene.
