Nuisance cyclists were ordered to disperse during a crackdown on antisocial behaviour this week.
Police issued a dispersal order on St Mary’s Island, Dockside Outlet and Pier Road area in Chatham earlier this week following complaints about gangs of youths on bikes riding dangerously in the area - sometimes cycling into shops and opening car doors in stationary traffic.
Sergeant Steve Holpin, from Kent Police’s Medway Community Safety Unit, said officers had regularly patrolled the area and officers dispersed a group of young people, who left the area when requested, on Wednesday, August 7, following a report of antisocial behaviour.
"A second group left the area when requested on the morning of Thursday," he added. "No further reports were received for the duration of the order and it was not necessary to seize any bikes."
Police say they will provide a proportionate response should any further reports of antisocial behaviour be received.
Anyone affected by antisocial behaviour is encouraged to report their concerns to us on 101 or by using the online reporting facility on the Kent Police website.
