An energy company has submitted an application to the government
to build a new gas-fired power station at Damhead Creek, near
Hoo.

ScottishPower hopes to start building in 2013, with the plant
becoming operational in 2016.

The building work will create 1,000 construction jobs during the
three-year building stage.

The company has submitted the plans to develop the new 1,000MW
gas-fired plant, alongside its existing Damhead Creek facility,
which will be a second phase of power generation at the site.

People who want to find out more about the plans can view the
exhibition material and discuss the proposal with the project team
at the BAE Systems Sports and Social Club, Bells Lane, Hoo, today,
Thursday, from noon until 8pm.

People can also view the plans in detail at the council’s
planning department.

The proposed facility is on 15 acres of brownfield land designated
for industrial development at the Kingsnorth industrial
estate.

When operational the multi-million pound plant will also employ
about 50 permanent staff.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) will now study
the proposals and will consult with Medway Council, the Environment
Agency and a range of other organisations.
