Two drug dealers found in possession of heroin and crack cocaine after officers smelt cannabis in their car have been jailed.
Mohamed Jeilani and Daniel Kamar were stopped while they were travelling in Chatham in February, and were sentenced today at Woolwich Crown Court after pleading guilty to supplying Class A drugs.
The court heard that on February 26 police in Luton Road noticed the occupants of a black BMW turn their heads as they were passed by a patrol car travelling in the opposite direction.
Officers then stopped the car after seeing the BMW trying to turn around in a cul-de-sac, and a strong smell of cannabis was immediately noticed.
Both men were arrested under the misuse of drugs act and taken back to Medway Police Station - where Kamar, who initially provided officers with a false name, was found to be concealing a quantity of crack cocaine and heroin.
While officers were completing paperwork at the station, a phone seized from the car began to ring and when an officer answered it the caller asked for wraps of heroin and crack cocaine.
Text messages on the phone also suggested the two men were involved in supplying the class A substances.
Jeilani, 28, of Dollis Valley Drive in Barnet, pleaded guilty to possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply, and was sentenced to one year and eight months imprisonment.
Kamar, 23, of Dollis Valley Way in Barnet, pleaded guilty to possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply, as well as possessing cannabis and obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty. He was sentenced to three years and four months imprisonment.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Terry Hanlon, said: "These two men were heavily involved in supplying drugs throughout the Medway towns and had travelled here from North London for that specific reason.
"Their arrest is the result of good, proactive police work and I welcome the sentences that have been passed."
