Lorry fire on A289 Hasted Road in Wainscott, Rochester causes delays for drivers

Traffic is building after a lorry fire on a main road.

The A289 Hasted Road in Wainscott, Rochester, closed eastbound temporarily due to the incident at 1.30pm today (October 14).

It is understood there are still delays from the B2000 Lower Rochester Road to A228 Four Elms Hill (Four Elms roundabout) but one lane has reopened.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue service said: “Two fire engines attended and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

“There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known.”

Police officers were called to the scene at 1.30pm and remain at the scene.

A spokesperson for the police said: “The road was closed in order to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service.”
