There were delays of more than two miles on the M2 this morning following a serious collision near Chatham.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.09am, after a four-car crash between Junction 2 at Strood and Junction 3 at Blue Bell Hill, on the London-bound carriageway.
National Highways reported the incident as a "serious collision" and said delays were building in the area.
Queues were up to 2.4 miles long and stretching as far back as Junction 4 for Bredhurst.
Police said officers were at the scene along with other emergency services, and that "injuries have been reported which are not believed to be life-threatening".
Two fire engines also attended and firefighters removed the roof of a car to free a casualty, who was handed into the care of SECAmb paramedics.
The road was closed and drivers were advised to avoid the area.
SECAmb said a man and a woman were assessed and treated before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, and that their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The road has since been reopened.
